FC Barcelona’s pursuit of Karim Adeyemi is moving into the next stage imminently. According to Marca, the 24-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward is scheduled to travel to the Catalan capital on Wednesday, with his medical set for Thursday before he signs his contract and joins Hansi Flick’s preseason work immediately thereafter.
The financial structure of the deal was agreed verbally last Friday, with Marca reporting a fixed fee of €22 million, plus up to €7 million in variables, the majority of which are tied to title-winning bonuses. As covered in earlier reporting on the fee structure and negotiations, the relatively modest fixed figure reflects that Adeyemi was in the final stretch of his Dortmund contract, giving the German club limited room to hold out for more. Since the verbal agreement, the two clubs have been working through the contractual documentation, the last procedural step before travel could be confirmed.
Dortmund had already granted Adeyemi permission to miss the start of their own preseason – which began last Sunday – specifically to allow the transfer to be completed. That clearance was a meaningful signal that the deal was effectively done on the German side well before the paperwork was finalised.
Adeyemi becomes the Blaugranes’ early signing for the 2026-27 cycle, following Anthony Gordon, whose arrival was made official at the end of May. His official presentation will have to wait until next week: president Joan Laporta arrived in Dallas in the early hours of Monday to attend the World Cup, and as Marca reports, his arrival in the U.S. is the reason the presentation is being delayed.
Flick, who knows Adeyemi well from his time in German football, will have the forward available to join the first-team training immediately after the Thursday medical and the contract formalities, working under the orders of Flick.
The arrival of a wide forward with Adeyemi’s pace and pressing profile will prompt questions about the balance of Barcelona’s attacking options and whether existing fringe players in wide positions face a shorter runway to exits. Those conversations are likely to sharpen once Flick begins to shape his starting lineups in preseason friendlies.
