FC Barcelona are clear enough about their objectives heading into the summer transfer window. While the most immediate attention is being placed on the current season, there is more to chase after it as well. For that point, Barcelona has already started to plan ahead.
One of the club’s major reported objectives for the summer is to pursue the signing of a new centre-forward if possible. Various players have been linked to the club in the past for such an operation, including the likes of Ligue 1 striker Jonathan David, who has even personally confessed his desire to play for Barcelona.
However, if there is one superstar signing that Barcelona, along with many other clubs across Europe for that matter, would like to make, it is Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The 25-year-old Swedish forward is in the form of his life right now, and he seems to have unlocked his best version yet.
According to SPORT, Barcelona dream of making the Premier League striker their marquee signing of the summer. However, there are undeniable complications that are linked to this operation and things that the club would have to work around.
One of those issues would be the transfer fee that Newcastle United would demand for him. Already opposed to the idea of letting go of him, the Premier League side will not budge unless a transfer offer arrives that reflects their own valuation of their star striker.
Reportedly, however, the transfer fee itself would not be the biggest issue for Barcelona if they do pursue the player. Instead, it would be the registration approval from La Liga that they fear would be a problematic concern, especially with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor’s temporary registrations still being assessed and evaluated.
Ultimately, however, the goal for Barcelona is to strengthen the team for next season. They have already started to work towards that goal by renewing some of their most important players by giving priority to contract renewals over extra signings in recent months.
With Isak, however, Barcelona understand and know that it is a player who the club has been following since quite some time. From his playing days in Real Sociedad to his continuity in England, Barça have always considered him a player worth pursuing.
A versatile player, he is someone who can operate effectively as both a natural centre-forward and as a winger as well. For Barcelona, he would be the ideal major signing in the summer, and the club would be ready to make certain sacrifices to sign him as well if they decide to push for his arrival.
However, Barcelona would also require that the player make some personal sacrifices as well. Previously, as per the same report, the club had already acquired the player’s ‘yes’ through his agent in a one-off meeting between him and some representatives from Barcelona, but financial restrictions stopped them from going any further.
