FC Barcelona have made their attacking priorities clear ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Deco and his team working closely with Hansi Flick to deliver reinforcements that align with the German coach’s vision. It is quite clear now that the Catalan club is prioritising signing an attacker who is preferably at home on the left wing.

The Catalan club also need to sign a striker sooner rather than later, although not immediately. Barcelona still have Robert Lewandowski in the ranks but the Polish veteran is entering the last 12 months of his contract, and this could be his last season in Hansi Flick’s team.

Lewandowski is currently 36 and will be 37 in another year’s time. He has had a very good season for Barcelona but as the months went on, the ex-Bayern Munich number nine struggled to hit the heights he was showing in the early months. Injuries certainly did not help his cause either.

Barcelona priced out of Isak move

If not this summer, next summer, Barcelona will need to sign a striker this summer. As per MARCA, the Catalan club have Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak as their number one target but a move looks unfeasible due to the Magpies’ asking price for the Swedish striker.

Transfermarkt values Isak at around €100m, but Newcastle United are expected to demand around €150m to part ways with the player. The 25-year-old has been the best striker in the world this season, playing 41 games across all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing six assists.

Isak has a contract with Newcastle United until 2028. Come the next summer, he will have two years left on his contract, which should help bring down his asking price by a substantial amount, but Barcelona would still need to be willing to pay a high transfer fee for his services.

What does the future hold?

It is also important to note that Barcelona have Ferran Torres. The Spaniard has come into his own in the number nine role and how he develops this upcoming season could go a long way in determining what kind of striker the club need to invest in next summer.

While the current asking price for Isak is beyond Barca’s reach, next summer could offer a more realistic path. Much will also depend on Torres’ continued development and Lewandowski’s potential final campaign in Blaugrana colours. For Deco and Flick, the groundwork begins now for a marquee addition in 2026.
