As the 2025-26 season approaches its official end, the focus of big clubs, like FC Barcelona, is increasingly shifting to the upcoming summer transfer window. The Catalans have some ambitious plans for this window, and would be looking to strengthen several key areas of the team ahead of the next season.
Meanwhile, they would also have to address the situations of some of their current players. This is not only true for the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Andreas Christensen, whose contracts are expiring at the end of this season, but for some other players as well, who still have some years left on their contracts, but who are not a part of the core of this team.
In this regard, Mundo Deportivo reports that Flick is planning to hold individual meetings with several of these players. The aim is to clearly explain his ideas and what he expects from each of them, while also allowing them to understand their role in the squad and decide what they want to do next.
Among those with an uncertain future are Jules Kounde, Alejandro Balde, and Roony Bardghji. Kounde has not been able to maintain the same level of consistency as last season, and there is a feeling inside the club that the right back position may need further strengthening. Barcelona also expect that interest could arrive for him depending on how the market develops.
Balde’s situation has also changed this season. He has gone from being a regular starter to seeing Joao Cancelo adapted into his role, while Gerard Martin has also been used regularly as a left-sided centre-back option. Because of this, the club is even considering whether reinforcements in that position are needed going forward.
Roony Bardghji is another player whose future is not fully clear. Flick initially saw him as cover for Lamine Yamal, but the Swedish winger has struggled to make an impact in recent outings.
There will also be a separate conversation with Lewandowski, as Flick has already spoken with him previously about his role and expectations if he decides to extend his stay at Barcelona.
Overall, Barcelona are moving into a decisive phase where these individual talks will help define the final shape of the squad for next season, as Flick and Deco look to align sporting plans with the club’s long-term direction.
