FC Barcelona confirmed the departure of Marc Casadó on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the 22-year-old midfielder moving to Deportivo on loan in the closing minutes of deadline day. The Galician club has secured a purchase option worth €30m, giving the deal a concrete path to becoming permanent beyond this season. The move is structured as a loan through June rather than an outright sale, with Deportivo retaining the option – not an obligation – to make it permanent for €30m. Barcelona will also assume a substantial part of Casadó’s salary for the duration of the loan, easing the financial burden on the newly-promoted side. Casadó’s contract at Camp Nou runs until June 2028, meaning any permanent exit would still represent Barcelona cashing in on a deal with significant time remaining, a point SempreBarça flagged when his future first came into question.
Deportivo’s interest in Casadó is not a deadline-day improvisation. According to Marca, the Galician club’s sporting department first took notice of him during the season when Deportivo and Barça B both competed in Primera RFEF, after he produced a standout display in a fixture at Riazor. That early impression stuck, and Deportivo continued tracking him until he became available, fending off what Marca described as a large number of domestic and foreign offers for his signature.
Casadó joined Barcelona’s academy in 2016 from CF Damm’s youth ranks and worked his way up to the first team for the 2022-23 campaign, going on to make 75 appearances in the Blaugrana shirt. He had not been selected for any of Barcelona’s opening matches this season, with Hansi Flick making clear he was not part of his midfield plans – a picture complicated further by the presence of Bernal, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Fermín López, Dani Olmo, Éric García and new arrival Rodri, all covering that area of the pitch.
