FC Barcelona has tried to make use of various low-cost operations in recent years. Given their financial troubles and limitations across that time period, it made sense for the club to go down that route. Fortunately, several of those deals ended up working out for Barcelona.

Now, the club is once again considering a deal that is more or less based on that same pre-existing logic. Marcus Rashford, aged 27, is set to join Barcelona this summer and he will be joining on a loan deal with a purchase option attached to it.

However, following a rather disappointing exit from Manchester United after he clearly struggled in recent months to deliver performances at his best, Rashford will be committed to reviving his career.

Aubameyang’s Barcelona stint should motivate Rashford

Fortunately, there are some more than appealing precedents already set at Barcelona for these kind of operations. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, arguably the best kind of example for Rashford at Barcelona could be the transfer of former Premier League striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang that happened back in the January transfer window of 2022.

The former Arsenal player joined Barcelona on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Arsenal. However, instead of being a player who could no longer deliver in big moments, he did the exact opposite and proved everyone wrong about him by scoring 13 goals in just 24 games for the club as per the report.

Other cases worth mentioning

Similarly, the cases of both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo are worth mentioning as well. Both of them arrived on two different loan deals, and they still managed to impress Barcelona enough with their performances for the club to consider permanently buying them, especially Cancelo, if possible.

Now, it is Rashford’s opportunity to do the same and follow in the footsteps of those who were enabled by Barcelona to reach new heights again. With his deal being favourable for the club as well, there is not a lot to lose but much to gain from this operation.
