Barcelona have tabled a new offer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri as they continue their efforts to bring the Spanish international back to his home country for the 2026/27 campaign.
According to Get Football News Spain, citing transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Barcelona have made a third offer for Rodri and are optimistic of completing a deal. The package under discussion is reported to be worth more than £60m, or more than €70m.
Barcelona return with third proposal
Rodri has been the subject of transfer speculation for several weeks. After he appeared likely to join Real Madrid, Barcelona emerged as the frontrunners to strike a deal, according to the report.
With his Manchester City contract set to expire in less than 12 months, Rodri has indicated that he wants a new challenge. Barcelona had previously sent two proposals to City, both of which were rejected, before Deco and the club hierarchy returned with a third bid late this week.
The reported financial gap has been a central part of the negotiations. An earlier report put Barcelona’s previous offer at around €60m, while City’s valuation was reported to be closer to €80m. Barcelona’s latest proposal represents a further attempt to narrow that difference after the first two offers were turned down.
Pre-season timeline
Separately, Africa Soccer, citing TalkSPORT, reported that Barcelona want the deal completed in time for Rodri to feature in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Al Ahly. The fixture is Barcelona’s final pre-season match before the La Liga campaign begins.
Barcelona have won La Liga in each of the past two seasons. Their first league match of the new campaign is scheduled to be against Elche on 23 August, followed by a rearranged home fixture against Athletic Club on 27 August.
Whether Barcelona’s latest package can meet City’s valuation remains the key issue. For now, the third offer underlines Barcelona’s continued pursuit of Rodri ahead of the new season.
