FC Barcelona are navigating a busy summer transfer window as Hansi Flick assesses his squad. After the team took part in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup in Italy, Barcelona beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 through a late Raphinha penalty before losing to Udinese.
Speaking to Marca, Flick discussed his farewell to Ronald Araújo. The Barcelona coach said the defender appeared happy and wished him well, while describing Araújo as a fantastic player and a great person.
Flick also pointed to a difference between Araújo’s profile and the style of play he wants to implement. He highlighted the defender’s power and speed, but said it had been difficult not to include him as much as he would have liked and noted that past errors had affected the player.
Araújo was reported to be set to join Liverpool on loan. Flick said difficult decisions are part of squad management and that teams must make changes while leaving space for younger players.
Addressing the wider squad, Flick said Barcelona know what they want and are aiming to improve the team, adding that the staff remain calm despite a shortened preseason. He also praised Raphinha’s intensity and work for the team, describing him as one of the captains. On Ferran Torres, Flick said he had not spoken with the player and was respecting his vacation.
