FC Barcelona’s summer squad restructuring is set to include Ronald Araújo’s loan move to Liverpool. Football365, citing Fabrizio Romano, reported that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Barcelona to sign the central defender on loan with an option to buy.
The option is set at €55m, or around £47m, and is not mandatory for Liverpool. Romano also reported that the clause applies for June 2027 and that Liverpool will cover Araújo’s full salary during the loan.
The deal was reported as having received Barcelona’s approval, with sporting director Deco referenced in Romano’s update. The arrangement gives Liverpool the opportunity to make the move permanent without an obligation to do so.
Liverpool have targeted defensive cover after Ibrahima Konaté’s move to Real Madrid. The club have also been without Virgil van Dijk, Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez and Jérémy Jacquet because of injuries, according to the report.
Araújo primarily operates at centre-back and can also play at right-back. His arrival would add another defensive option for Liverpool as the club manages its current availability issues.
Romano reported that Araújo was due to travel to Liverpool for medical tests on Sunday as the clubs completed the loan process. The proposed move would give Barcelona a loan agreement with a non-mandatory €55m purchase option in place for Liverpool.
