FC Barcelona have officially confirmed that Sergio Busquets has returned to the club as an assistant coach with the reserve team, Barça Atlètic. The former midfielder has joined Juliano Belletti’s staff while continuing his coaching course.
FC Barcelona’s official announcement said Busquets had joined Barça Atlètic as an assistant coach and would bring his experience and football knowledge to the team while completing his coaching training.
Busquets came through La Masia before breaking into Barcelona’s first team in 2008 under Pep Guardiola. He went on to make more than 700 appearances for the club and formed part of the midfield alongside Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
He left Barcelona in 2023 to join Inter Miami, where he reunited with Lionel Messi. After two years in the United States, Busquets retired from playing in 2025.
Reports had previously linked Busquets with a potential coaching return to Barcelona. That move is now official, with the former captain joining Belletti’s staff with the reserve team as he works toward his coaching badges.
Barça Atlètic last competed in the second tier in 2018 and have since dropped to the Segunda Federación. The reserve side’s staff will seek to develop young players while helping the team progress, and Busquets’ arrival brings the experience of a former Barcelona player who followed the same academy pathway.
