FC Barcelona continued their charge towards the La Liga title as they won their last league game against Celta Vigo. The match offered a lot of excitement, as the Catalans came back from a 2-goal deficit in the 62nd minute to win the game 4-3 by the full-time whistle.
However, the taste of this sweet victory was soured somewhat by the physical problems suffered by the striker Robert Lewandowski, who is now highly unlikely to be able to participate in the upcoming Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in a week’s time.
There is no doubt that the Pole’s injury is a significant loss for Hansi Flick, who would ideally want all of his players available for this last stretch of the season.
However, as SPORT has noted, the Barcelona coach will still not have a lot of problems replacing his preferred striker for the upcoming Copa final, as there are two high-quality options available to him.
One of these options is Ferran Torres, who was once again pivotal for his side last night, scoring the opening goal against Vigo. The Spaniard has frequently played as a false 9, and both Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are quite comfortable playing with him in the Blaugrana attack.
Furthermore, he has also shown himself to be a highly effective goalscorer, having one of the best scoring averages – a goal every 88 minutes – in La Liga, and is having his best season in the Barcelona team with his 17 goals in all competitions.
Another option for Flick will be Dani Olmo, who was even more crucial for the Catalan team than Torres, as he scored the second goal and also won the penalty for the winning goal. He can also play as a false 9 without many problems, as he has shown while playing with the Spanish national team.
If Flick picks up Olmo for this role, the Cup final will be the first time that the Spanish midfielder starts for Barcelona in a month and a half. Hopefully, he will be able to help his team in whatever capacity he plays, and will remain fit for this last phase of the season.
