FC Barcelona continued their good form in the game against Mallorca in La Liga and ended up with a 1-0 win. It was a completely dominant performance from Hansi Flick’s men despite the coach rotating and resting a number of his starters.
It was a good performance that helped the team continue their title push in La Liga and go 7 points clear of Real Madrid at the top. Los Blancos now have a game to face against Getafe that is effectively a must-win for them ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
Meanwhile, while the performances on the pitch continue, off the pitch, the club continues to be linked with both incomings and outgoings in the transfer window. Now, as per Fichajes, Manchester United are very interested in signing Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong.
This is an age-old saga that has been going on for many transfer windows now, and even the exit of Erik ten Hag hasn’t stopped Man Utd from being linked with a move for the Dutch midfield maestro, who has been excellent since the start of 2025.
Frenkie had a torrid 2024 marred with injuries and inconsistency upon his return, and it looked like his time at the top level was all but over, but the Dutchman has made a resounding comeback and established himself as a key cog of Flick’s setup.
Playing as a pivot, Frenkie has adapted his game to become more defensively proficient, to go along with his attacking ability, and the partnership he has formed with Pedri at the base of midfield is extremely important to where Barcelona find themselves at this point of the season.
Ideally, Barcelona are unlikely to want to let Frenkie go, but come the summer, he will be in the final year of his contract and hasn’t shown any signs of putting pen to paper on a new deal. Thus, this could change the club’s plans in the summer window.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Frenkie de Jong at Barcelona and if Man Utd find a way to sign the player come the summer. Only time will tell how it plays out!
