Despite still being a very important member of the FC Barcelona squad, the striker Robert Lewandowski is facing a highly uncertain future at the Blaugrana club, as he is already 37 years of age and is in the last year of his contract.

Speculation about his potential departure from the Catalan side is rife, with several clubs around the world reported to be interested in his signature. One such side is the MLS club Chicago Fire, which, according to SPORT, has already made its first firm offer to the player.

Chicago Fire have been actively pursuing Lewandowski since initial contact became public late last year. The MLS side views the Pole as a marquee signing and has already presented a formal proposal, believed to be a two-year contract with a salary reflecting his status as the face of the franchise once his Barcelona deal expires.

The American club has also worked to strengthen ties with Lewandowski’s inner circle. His wife Anna visited Chicago in November and toured residential areas, while meetings have taken place in both Barcelona and London. One of the most significant saw Lewandowski’s agent, Pini Zahavi, meet Chicago Fire owner Joe Mansueto, further underlining the seriousness of the approach.

Chicago’s large Polish community and the club’s history of Polish players are additional factors working in their favour. From a sporting standpoint, the Fire are eager to make a major impact in MLS after missing out on several global stars in recent months, and see Lewandowski as the ideal figure to lead that ambition.

Head coach Gregg Berhalter has publicly praised Lewandowski’s goal-scoring consistency and legacy, acknowledging him as one of the most prolific forwards of his generation, while avoiding direct comment on the negotiations.

For now, Barcelona have not made a definitive decision on Lewandowski’s long-term future, and the striker remains focused on his duties with La Blaugrana. However, with Chicago Fire pushing hard and offering a central role in an ambitious project, the coming months could prove decisive in determining whether Robert Lewandowski stays at Barcelona or begins a new chapter in MLS.
