For the upcoming summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are looking to strengthen several positions in their team. Their highest priority will once again be to land a winger, but after that, they will also try to address the lack of depth on the team’s flanks.

The Blaugranes have already been linked with several interesting fullbacks in the last few months, as they look for players who can provide better cover for their starters, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.

According to Mundo Deportivo, one of the most interesting fullbacks that the Catalans have been in contact with in recent years is the Liverpool star, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has already won a Premier League title and a UEFA Champions League title with the Reds.

The English defender is quite likely to join Real Madrid for free next summer as his current contract with the Merseyside club ends at the end of the season.

The report claims that the fullback has met representatives from Barcelona several times in the last few years. Deco even held talks with his brother, who represents the England international.

However, an agreement between them remained elusive, mainly because of the Blaugrana club’s problems with FFP and also because of their full confidence in Kounde.

The French defender’s importance has only increased since Hansi Flick’s arrival, even though he was also a fixed starter for Xavi Hernandez last season.

Currently, he is the player with the highest number of minutes, 3541, and has 3 goals and 8 assists to his name. In fact, he has been playing non-stop for his club and country for the last 90 games.

Thus, while it remains to be seen whether Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid or not this summer, it seems to be quite clear that he will not come to Barcelona, mainly because the Blaugranes are looking for a more low-profile player who will have no problems being a substitute for Jules Kounde.
