FC Barcelona have a very talented young squad at Hansi Flick’s disposal with almost two players for every single position across the pitch. The perils of having such a roster is that there are some players who might not get as much game time as they desire.
Take Barcelona’s midfield, for example. Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Fermin Lopez, Gavi, Marc Casado, and Marc Bernal are all competing for three positions between them. Among these, the former two are certainties in the starting XI.
Fermin, who is now 22 years old, is a very valuable squad profile but a bits-and-parts player for Hansi Flick. Barcelona’s financial situation is such that he is one of their more sellable assets this summer, and interest in him is plenty.
Chelsea are exploring a move for Barcelona talent Fermin Lopez

As per journalist David Ornstein, Premier League club Chelsea is now exploring the possibility of signing Fermin. They are yet to open club-to-club talks with Barcelona, but have started dialogue with the player’s camp in case of a potential exit.
The depth in Barcelona’s squad for the midfield position has made an exit for Fermin a possibility. However, there is no doubt that Hansi Flick would love to keep hold of the Spanish international for the upcoming season.
A unique squad profile

Fermin is a very unique squad profile. He is a box-crashing #10 who is a direct goal threat. His long-range shooting helps against teams that sit in a deep block, and he is an absolute menace in making runs into the box at the right times.
Chelsea’s interest in Fermin is understandable, but Barcelona should not be disrupting the squad this close to the end of the transfer window. Even if he were to leave, the club can cope thanks to profiles like Toni Fernandez. Let’s wait and see how things play out in this regard.
