The FC Barcelona team is playing at a very high level and competing for all the big trophies this season. Meanwhile, another aspect of the Catalan club that would generate a lot of excitement in the fans is the presidential elections, which are expected to culminate in March.
In fact, SPORT reports that the electoral process at the Catalan club has already started. The club’s Board of Directors has officially called the elections, with the announcement published today.
This launch sets the electoral calendar in motion, establishing key dates and deadlines as per the Club’s Statutes:
February 9: publication of the call for elections
Until February 12: public draw to select members of the Electoral Board and Electoral Committee
February 13 or 14: formal constitution of the Electoral Board and Committee
From February 15: requests for endorsement ballots may be submitted
February 15 to 19: display of the electoral roll
February 20 to 22: resolution of challenges to the roll and approval of the final electoral roll
February 23 to March 2: submission of candidacy proposals
March 3 to 5: counting of endorsement ballots and proclamation of candidates who receive support from at least 50 percent of Assembly delegates
March 6 to 13: election campaign
March 14: day of reflection
March 15: voting day
To facilitate voting, FC Barcelona will set up five polling stations across Catalonia in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona, as well as one in the Principality of Andorra. Members may vote at any of these locations regardless of their residence.
There will be no postal voting for this election, a practice that was used only in the 2021 elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the club has launched a dedicated website providing full information on the electoral process.
Once the election date was confirmed, the Board of Directors held an ordinary session on Monday to formalize the resignation of directors who will stand in the elections. This upcoming vote will mark the 15th presidential election in FC Barcelona’s history since the first election in 1953, which was restricted to male members, and the ninth under universal suffrage.
Joan Laporta, who recently stepped down from his presidency to partake in these elections, is the favorite to return again with a new mandate, but for now, it remains to be seen how this crucial process at Barcelona pans out.
