FC Barcelona are likely to have a Robert Lewandowski-sized hole to fill at the end of the season. The Pole is in the final year of his contract with the Catalan club, and it seems unlikely that he will be handed a new deal.

Despite the 37-year-old continuing to perform at a very high level, injuries have started to catch up with him. Lewandowski is unable to sustain the same intensity for two games in a row, and a replacement could be on the cards.

According to Fichajes, both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested in signing 25-year-old Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. The Serbian has been with the Serie A club for a significant period and will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Vlahovic would add experience to Barcelona’s forward line. A well-established number nine in the Italian league, the Serbian has not moved outside the country yet and could take time to adapt to the rigours of Spanish football.

In terms of goalscoring, the 25-year-old is not as prolific as Robert Lewandowski, and this could hamper his chances of succeeding at Barcelona. Filling the Pole’s boots is not going to be an easy task.

The silver lining is that Vlahovic would arrive as a free agent. In terms of value for money, the Serbian offers enough for the Catalan club to be interested, and we will have to wait and see how things play out on this front.
