FC Barcelona are looking to strengthen their team for the next season in this summer transfer window, and one of the areas of the team that they are looking to reinforce is that of the goalkeeper.
In this regard, the Catalans have been very closely linked with the RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia in recent days, and everything indicates that he might be a part of Hansi Flick’s squad for the next season.
Ter Stegen in a complicated situation
While this would be an exciting signing for Barcelona fans, this will still leave the current number one goalkeeper in the squad, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, in a difficult position. The Spaniard will arrive only to be a starter, as he has several other suitors as well, which would mean the German being relegated to the bench.
While this would have been a worrisome situation for a player of Ter Stegen’s stature at any time, this situation should be particularly concerning for him as the World Cup is approaching and he would want to be his national team’s starter in this megaevent.
Avoids commenting on Joan Garcia’s signing
In such a context, the Barcelona captain talked to the media after playing for his German national team in the UEFA Nations League match against Portugal. As SPORT has reported, the goalkeeper was asked about the possible signing of Joan Garcia, but he avoided talking about this matter:
“It’s not a topic for today. Right now, we’re talking about the national team… I’m focused on my national team, and what happens at my club is a different matter… But we’ll talk about that another time.”

The last night was a mixed one for ter Stegen. He put in a good performance between the sticks, but was unable to avoid defeat as the Iberians came out winners with a 1-2 scoreline.
For now, Garcia’s signing has not been confirmed. But if this signing materializes, there is no doubt that Ter Stegen would be in a very difficult situation and might have to look for new team.
