This upcoming summer transfer window will be a massive chance for FC Barcelona to reinforce their team. After all, the only correct step forward for the Catalan giants would be to aim for even more next season. Having won La Liga and every other domestic title this season, Barcelona are definitely capable of it.
However, it will take some careful planning and attention from La Blaugrana to make that objective of theirs a feasible reality. Across the pitch, there are various positions in which Barcelona would ideally like to reinforce the squad if they could have it all their way.
Unfortunately, there is definitely a limit as to what they can spend and who they can bring in. One position where there has been speculation since quite some time, however, is the goalkeeper position and Barcelona continues to remain linked to various players.
Joan Garcia is certainly now on Barcelona’s radar
According to Fernando Polo and Mundo Deportivo, however, Barcelona have decided on which player to pursue this summer. That would be none other than RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who has notably been a favorite of sorts in recent weeks taking into account both news reports and fan reception online.
Even the ever-reliable Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, has confirmed Barça’s interest as well. He has stated that the club is definitely among the many suitors that Joan Garcia has, and that La Blaugrana do certainly have concrete interest in the player.
Undeniably one of La Liga’s best goalkeepers in this recent season, he even managed to help Espanyol avoid relegation and stay in the First Division. However, he has hinted that he intends to leave this summer, and Barcelona are now reportedly all set to target his signing.
Aged just 24, the Spanish goalkeeper presents a massive market opportunity for Barcelona. He currently has a release clause set at €25 million, and it is an affordable price tag for the Catalan giants to match if it means acquiring one of the most in-form goalkeepers on the market right now.

The case of the other goalkeepers
Moreover, considering the inconsistency of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and the unknown factor of Wojciech Szczesny’s stay at the club beyond this season, Joan Garcia would be a smart option for Barcelona to pursue. Either way, his arrival would undeniably increase the overall quality that Barça would have in terms of goalkeepers.
However, given his ties to Espanyol and the rivalry that club has against Barcelona, there are certainly some hurdles. Still, players in the past have made that jump and the benefits of joining La Blaugrana are simply too many to count if Garcia ends up making that jump.
Barcelona might need to act fast
However, Barcelona will definitely need to be a bit quick considering the interest that other clubs have in the Spanish goalkeeper. Moreover, his release clause will reportedly increase as well near the end of the transfer window if enough time passes this summer.
While renewing contracts such as those of Raphinha and potentially even Lamine Yamal are undoubtedly important, the Catalan club will need to be swift. They simply cannot afford to let such a great opportunity pass them without at least making a real attempt to sign the player.
