FC Barcelona are planning on assembling a squad that is ready to compete for everything next season. While the objective before was to sign players, the club is now more focused on offloading players as well. As it stands, Barcelona are progressing well on that end.

Previous operations like that of Pablo Torre’s exit to Mallorca or Pau Victor’s recent departure to Braga have been wrapped up already. Simultaneously, reports continue to emerge suggesting that promising youngster Jan Virgili could end up leaving the club soon as well.

However, it now seems that the club might look to offload another player as well this summer. For this particular case, however, the decision has reportedly come after Hansi Flick himself has decided that he does not count on the said player in terms of his plans for the club’s future.

According to Fichajes, 23-year-old Spanish left-back Gerard Martin is the player that Barcelona has now decided to transfer list and essentially put on the market. Despite his commitment to the club, La Blaugrana see that he does not have a place in Flick’s team.

That is primarily because of the recent emergence of Jofre Torrents, who has impressed during preseason so far and even shone against Vissel Kobe in his debut. Moreover, with Alejandro Balde already established as the starting left-back, Martin has now gone even further down the pecking order.

Interest from the Premier League

That is why Barcelona is reportedly now working to offload the €12 million-rated defender, as per his valuation on Transfermarkt, this summer. However, the report claims that even if he does leave, the club wants to retain some control through a buy-back or sell-on clause.

Currently under contract until 2028, the Spanish left-back could prove to be a financially beneficial exit for the club as well. A previous report even claimed that the Catalan giants already have an asking price in mind for his suitors, with clubs from the Premier League reportedly being interested in him.
