It is clear to see that Barcelona are still not able to freely operate in the transfer market without restrictions. Despite managing to return to the 1:1 rule again, La Blaugrana are quite limited in the way that they operate in any market. However, perhaps it is for the best that Barcelona is forced to be cautious.
Considering the kind of debacles that have taken place in the past, the Catalan giants will likely be okay with not overextending themselves again. At the same time, however, players are often linked to Barcelona irrespective of the financial side of things simply because of the club’s pedigree.
Even during this ongoing January transfer window, Barça has been linked to a certain Manchester United winger. Englishman Marcus Rashford, now aged 27, is a player whose arrival has been contemplated by both the club and by the player himself as well.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have now decided to give priority to player renewals rather than new signings this January. They wish to use their slightly improved financial situation right now to first renew their own existing players and announce said renewals before contemplating other signings.
With Ronald Araujo already having extended his contract until 2031, Barça are now planning to renew the contracts of both Pedri and Gavi. In fact, the club could even make use of the last week of January as the perfect time to announce the renewals for both players if all the details are agreed upon by then.
Either until 2030 or even 2031, Barça are planning on giving both players an extension. Considering both of the Spanish midfielders as integral to the club’s future project, the Catalan giants are already certain about wanting to retain the services of both players for as long as possible.
With Pedri, there is already a verbal agreement in place and Barcelona is also making great progress with Gavi’s renewal. As for the official announcement, the club will likely choose either the upcoming Thursday or Friday as the ideal date to announce both renewals considering the otherwise jam-packed end of the month for the team.
