FC Barcelona may have lost their La Liga clash against Villarreal at Montjuic Stadium last night, but the defeat did little to dampen the mood. The evening was more than just about the scoreboard; it was a celebration of the league title, and the players relished the chance to mark the occasion in front of their devoted home fans.

Montjuic, perched on a hilltop, has served as Barcelona’s temporary fortress while renovations continue at the iconic Spotify Camp Nou. Despite its transitory status, fans have turned out in force, transforming the venue into a true home away from home for the Catalan giants.

In what was arguably Barcelona’s last game in that stadium (the expectation is that they will return to the Camp Nou next season), Lamine Yamal gave the fans yet another moment of joy as he cut in on his left foot and unleashed a now trademark curler beyond the far post to level the game.

Lamine has taken it up a notch

Lamine has been a brilliant player for quite some time now but his game seems to have moved to the next level in the past month. The teenager has added goalscoring to his repertoire and has given Barcelona fans numerous moments of joy.

The youngster is a couple of months away from turning 18, after which he is set to put pen to paper on a new contract with Barcelona. As per Memorabilia1899 on X, it has been confirmed that Lamine will be handed the number 10 jersey next season.

The legendary #10 jersey has been adorned by some Barcelona legends, none bigger than Lionel Messi. Once the Argentine maestro left the club, it was then passed on to Ansu Fati, who was assumed to be the heir apparent back then.

Messi -> Fati -> Lamine

Fati’s career, though, has fallen off a cliff since. Injuries have played a cruel role in completely halting the La Masia graduate’s progress and in recent weeks, the 22-year-old is struggling to even get minutes off the bench for Barcelona.

The tweet mentions that Barcelona are set to announce Lamine Yamal’s bumper contract, which will include a €1b release clause once the player turns 18. The Spanish wonderkid is already a superstar in his own right and doesn’t seem to understand what pressure means.

For Barcelona fans, the prospect of a left-footed right-winger donning the number 10 jersey stirs a deep sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the days when Lionel Messi wove magic on the pitch. Next season, that image could become reality with Lamine Yamal ready to embrace the role. With his fearless play and ever-growing influence, the future looks thrillingly bright. All eyes will be on what comes next.
