This FC Barcelona team has given very little to complain about throughout this season, but the Catalan club is still looking to reinforce its ranks in the next summer transfer window ahead of the next season.
The Blaugranes have several positions in mind to strengthen, one of these being the flanks. Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde are the fixed starters for Hansi Flick this season, but Barcelona want to bring more experienced and competent substitutes for these starters than Hector Fort and Gerard Martin.
In this regard, one of the players who has been closely linked with the Blaugrana club for quite some time now is the Almeria defender Marc Pubill, whom the Catalans have been unable to land up to now because of their FFP problems.
However, this is set to change next summer, as Barcelona reportedly already have an agreement in place with both the player and his current club, with only the final details of the deal left to be finalized, according to Sara Escriu.
While Marca reports that the player’s entourage has not denied the rumors, they have emphasized their focus on the current season, acknowledging the challenges they’ve faced. Pubill is fully aware of Barcelona’s interest for the upcoming season and has even discussed it with those close to him.
However, to secure the €4m-rated Catalan defender, Barcelona will need to pay around €20 million. The player’s contract with Almería runs until 2029, with a €40 million release clause. Additionally, 25% of any transfer fee will go to Levante, as they hold a right to the player.
Almeria had reached a deal with Atalanta last summer to sell him for €15 million fixed and another €5 million in variables. The player had even gone to Italy to pass a medical examination, but the operation fell at the very last stages.
Thus, if this report is true, Barcelona might have already made their first acquisition of the season. With his physicality, strength, speed, and overall defensive skills, Pubill promises to be quite a good addition to the Blaugrana squad.
