One major decision FC Barcelona need to make in the coming months concerns the future of star striker Robert Lewandowski. The Pole is currently in the final few months of his contract with the Catalan club.

Lewandowski may no longer be a spring chicken. At 37, he does not have the legs to play every single game for Barcelona, but if anyone doubts his value to this team, all they have to do is watch that second leg against Newcastle United.

It would therefore not come as a total surprise if Barcelona decided to hand him a new deal. Now, as per reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, the experienced Pole is keeping all his options open and has yet to decide where he wants to take his career.

Romano goes on to mention that there is interest from MLS clubs keen to see one of the best strikers of his generation wear their shirt before bringing his career to a close. There are also clubs from elsewhere that are interested.

The Italian journalist has also confirmed that Barcelona intend to renew him for another solitary year, and that remains another possible path for the former Bayern Munich superstar. Lewandowski is weighing up the pros and cons before making a decision soon.

If the Catalan club do retain him, it will have to be on a lower salary structure than the one he is currently on. Lewandowski might need to stay around to help mentor a new striker the club bring in this summer, but there is no clarity yet on whether that will be the case.

Everything points to a resolution being reached in the next few weeks, rather than later. We will have to wait and see what Lewandowski wants to do and whether this is a partnership the two parties look to continue beyond this season.
