Nolito has made a brutally honest admission that will raise eyebrows among FC Barcelona fans, revealing that despite being a Barca supporter from childhood, he would have played for Real Madrid if the chance had come and the move made sense for his life.

As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the former Barcelona attacker spoke in an interview preview and admitted he would also have played for Real Betis despite his past with Sevilla, framing both answers as part of the reality of making a living from football.

He said:

“Of course I would have liked to play for Real Madrid. How could I not? To feed my daughters and pay for their studies. I would have played for Madrid and I would have defended Madrid’s colours. I have been a Barca fan since I was little. I’m going to be honest with you because I’m not stupid either. I live from football and financially I have had to sort my life out.”

On Betis, he said:

“I’m more of a Betis fan than a Sevilla fan, but I would have played for Betis. You’re going to get me into big trouble, aren’t you? You’re going to ruin me.”

From a Barcelona perspective, the first reaction will naturally be discomfort. Hearing a former Barca player speak so openly about the possibility of wearing white is never going to sit easily with supporters. But the honesty is also the point.

That said, Nolito never made it big in Barcelona colors and had Real Madrid come calling, it is understandable that he would have made a decision that suited his family best. That is ahead of everything else.

Regardless, this is something that never happened and a story of what could have been. It is good that it never actually played out in the transfer market.

  1. I think most wouldn’t understand his reasoning, yet he’s 1k correct. In the end, this sport is the check out clerk, bank teller, policeman, doctor, accountant, and garbage collector. It’s what pays the bills. When you have responsibilities, you can’t be concerned with how fans think, you feed your family first and fuck the rest!!!
