There are still some weeks till the 2025 summer transfer window opens, but FC Barcelona have already done a lot of work to strengthen their team ahead of the next season.
For instance, they are quite close to completing the signing of the RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, whose release clause they have already paid.
Similarly, they also seem to have made a decision on which player will strengthen their left wing, as a recent report indicated that the Blaugranes have reached a pre-agreement with the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.
Javier Tebas comments on Nico’s signing
While Barcelona continue to make all these moves in the market, they are still struggling with their FFP situation, and as MARCA has reported, the President of La Liga, Javier Tebas, reminded them of this fact as he spoke to the media while attending an event today.
When asked about whether the Blaugranes can afford to sign Nico Williams, the top league official said:
“Does Barça have the money to sign Nico and register him? I don’t know. But in the end, you hear so many names: Williams, this one, the guy with the motorbike… first, let’s make sure what needs to be registered is actually real, which I don’t know either.”
Joan Garcia’s registration
Tebas went on to remind Barcelona that they will have to do some work to be able to register Joan Garcia:
“We’re not even at the right time yet, but we’ll see… Barça has to do a few things to be able to register him, not many, but they know what they are.”
As things stand, the Blaugrana club is working to return to the 1:1 rule for the next transfer window, and as these comments from Javier Tebas show, the Catalans are not yet there. However, Barcelona are hoping they will return to this status as they have already submitted documentation about the construction of VIP boxes to the league authorities.
