Lamine Yamal misses Barcelona training ahead of Spanish Super Cup semi-final

The FC Barcelona team is already in Saudi Arabia as they look to win the first trophy of the 2025-26 season, i.e., the Spanish Super Cup. The Catalans would be playing in the semi-final against Athletic Club tonight.

The Blaugrana team has been training in the Middle Eastern country ahead of this game, and they held their final training session ahead of this match yesterday, on Tuesday.

However, surprisingly, Mundo Deportivo reported that Lamine Yamal was unable to train with the rest of his teammates in this last session, and Barcelona confirmed that he had trained inside the facility, but only undertook a special physical workout designed for him.

No further details on why he missed the session were provided, but the club assured that he is not suffering from anything serious. Mundo Deportivo reports that Yamal has been suffering from a stomach virus for several days, which has weakened him somewhat, and this could be the reason for his absence.

It is worth noting that Yamal also missed Barcelona’s first training of the year on January 1 due to general malaise.

Hansi Flick did not comment on Yamal’s situation in his pre-match press conference because it took place before the training session in which Yamal was absent.

For now, the forward remains available for selection, and Barcelona fans will hope to see him feature on the pitch against Athletic Club tonight.
