Marc Casadó’s Barcelona future hangs in the balance amid Sunderland interest

FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó is still awaiting a resolution to his future after spending several weeks training apart from the first-team group. The 22-year-old is not in Hansi Flick’s plans, according to Mundo Deportivo, and Sunderland have emerged as another club linked with a move for him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, which cites The Guardian, Sunderland have entered the race for Casadó and are reportedly negotiating his arrival. Nottingham Forest had previously been strongly linked with the midfielder, while Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton have also been connected with him.

Casadó was left without a squad number at Barcelona after his former No. 17 was assigned to Anthony Gordon. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is working in the market to find a destination for the Barcelona academy graduate.

Barcelona are valuing Casadó at around €30 million to €40 million. Mundo Deportivo reports that a sale at that level would allow the club to pursue further signings as it defines its squad for the season.

Casadó is reported to prefer remaining in European football despite receiving attractive offers from Saudi Arabia. That preference has kept the Premier League at the centre of the discussion around his next destination.

For now, Sunderland are among the English clubs linked with Casadó as he awaits a resolution to his future. Barcelona’s valuation and the player’s preference to continue in Europe are likely to remain central to any potential move.
