FC Barcelona had a memorable 2024-25 season as they won all the big domestic titles. However, their season could have been even better if they had gone on to the final of the UEFA Champions League and even won the competition.

In fact, the Blaugranes seemed to be one of the favorites to win the competition up to the semi-final stage, where they met the Italian side Inter Milan.

The two sides fought off a highly entertaining draw, which saw a total of 13 goals scored. Ultimately, the Italians got the better of the Catalans and won the tie 7-6 in extra time of the second leg.

The Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries was the Inter Milan player who dealt the most damage to Barcelona in this tie. Of the 7 goals scored by the Nerazzurri, he scored 2 and assisted another 3.

A few weeks after this tie, reports emerged in the media that the Blaugrana side wants to sign the Dutch defender, taking advantage of his €25 million release clause. The journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed Barcelona’s interest in the player.

Inter Milan official confirms no offer received from Barcelona

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Inter Milan Sporting Director, Piero Ausilio, recently revealed that there has been no move made by the Catalan side for the defender. In this regard, the Inter official said:

“We haven’t received any formal approach from Barça for Denzel Dumfries. There is a release clause, that’s true… but it will expire soon and we’ll move on.”

There is no doubt that a player like Denzel Dumfries would be a very exciting addition to any team. However, Barcelona have other priorities in the market, and they already have Jules Kounde as a starter at the right-back position and are satisfied with the performances of Eric Garcia as a backup option.
