FC Barcelona have been working diligently to secure the services of new players this summer. For weeks, the Catalan club has been linked to various players and different operations. However, it was only a matter of time before Barcelona made some active moves.
One player who was constantly being associated and linked to the club was Joan Garcia, and his signing looked to be a real priority. A 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, he was previously signed to Barça’s fierce local rivals RCD Espanyol.
However, that was the case before today. Now, Barcelona have officially confirmed the arrival of the 24-year-old Spaniard as a first-team player for the upcoming season. With his arrival, Hansi Flick’s team now has arguably the best-performing goalkeeper in La Liga right now.

This official confirmation comes not too long after La Blaugrana paid the player’s release clause. Estimated to have been around the €25 million mark, it looks to have been a good price for a player who has proven himself to be a real game-changer when the team needs that extra security at the back.
He has now signed with Barcelona until 2031, and he becomes the first official signing for the Catalan giants this summer. Having been after him since quite some time, it is definitely great news that Barça have finally managed to secure his arrival.
However, this could spell some bad news for German goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. For the veteran goalkeeper and Barcelona captain, Garcia’s arrival could potentially be bad news and eventually lead to the end of his time with the club.
In other news, however, it would appear that Barcelona have other plans for this summer as well. The club reportedly wants to sign a left-winger as well, and a certain Croatian veteran seems to be waiting for the Spanish side before he commits his future elsewhere.
