FC Barcelona are set to make some big decisions this summer, albeit it is taking them some time to do so. From transfers to internal matters, the club is busy with a lot of different and unique operations. However, some decisions are far easier for Barcelona to make than others.

For instance, while the Luis Diaz operation involving Liverpool is set to continue, other operations are gradually being wrapped up. First came the signing of Joan Garcia, and since then the club has managed to sign Roony Bardghji as well as renewing the contract of Wojciech Szczesny for two more years.

Another significant renewal was that of Lamine Yamal’s contract, with the 18-year-old forward now committing himself to the club until 2031. However, the official presentation was still pending, and even that has been wrapped up today alongside a new jersey number for the player being officially revealed as well.

As confirmed by Barcelona officially, Lamine Yamal is set to be the new number ‘10’ of the club moving forward. Following the departure of Ansu Fati, he is now set to be the next player to take on the responsibility of that prestigious number.

A legacy of legends behind him

Worn by true icons of the game before him, Yamal is following in the footsteps of actual greats and legends. The likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Diego Maradona, Rivaldo, and others have worn that number on their backs at some point.

Interestingly, Rivaldo was even asked about the decision, and he seems to have given Yamal his blessing. According to the Brazilian icon, the 18-year-old Barcelona superstar has exactly what it takes to handle that responsibility and not let it negatively impact his game.

With his contract signing now officially presented and the player’s new number being confirmed as well, it is a massive step for the young forward. However, while this is an honour by itself, it also means that Yamal will need to step up to an even greater level to match the high expectations now.
