FC Barcelona enjoyed another memorable night as they lifted the Supercopa de España trophy, defeating their long-time rivals Real Madrid in the final. The victory will surely remain a cherished memory for both players and fans alike.

The only sour note for the Blaugranes came in the final moments when midfielder Frenkie de Jong received a straight red card. The Dutchman caught Kylian Mbappe on the left shin with his studs while both players were contesting the ball.

Referee Munuera Montero deemed the challenge dangerous and issued the red card, a decision that was not reviewed by VAR, with Trujillo Suarez monitoring from the sidelines.

Since the ball was in play and the action was not considered violent conduct, the red card carries a one-match suspension.

According to the rules of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, this suspension will be served in the next official match, regardless of the competition or any schedule changes. As a result, de Jong will miss Barcelona’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Racing Santander on Thursday.

This suspension means Hansi Flick can look forward to having Frenkie de Jong back for the league match against Real Sociedad next Sunday at Anoeta Stadium. Barcelona will hope to navigate the cup tie without their key midfielder while maintaining the momentum from their Supercopa triumph.
