The arrival of Joan Garcia at Barcelona this summer was met with a lot of excitement. Fans are eager to see him in action once the official season starts, and it is expected that he will be registered by then. However, he has another test before then.

Against Como, Garcia is expected to start as the team’s goalkeeper for the Joan Gamper Trophy. Interestingly, this would be his first time playing in front of the local Barça fans at home, even thought the game will be played at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

However, this match could be more important than just being his local debut in front of the home supporters. In fact, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, it could be a golden opportunity for him to make a strong case for his first ever call-up to the Spanish National team under Luis de la Fuente.

With Spain set to play two FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September, the final squad list for those games is expected to come before the end of August. If Garcia wants to be a part of it, he might have to make every single club match count until the National team coach makes his decision.

Starting off that objective with a good performance in the Joan Gamper Trophy could prove to be crucial. Moreover, with Ter Stegen now having authorised the club to send his medical report to La Liga, Garcia’s chances of getting registered timely for the official season might just have gone up as well.
