The center-back is one of the positions FC Barcelona are looking to reinforce with the highest priority in the next summer transfer window, and with each passing day, it seems increasingly likely that they will land the Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni for this purpose.

Recent reports on the matter suggest that the Inter Milan center-back is willing to play for the Blaugranes, while the Nerazzurri might also be content to part ways with him.

However, as SPORT has noted, this operation and the Italian defender’s potential arrival will have a domino effect on the current Barcelona squad, and several players can be impacted.

For instance, Inter could be interested in a player swap, and like two players in particular, i.e., Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo. Meanwhile, changes in the center-back position are also expected, as there would be too many players for this position with Bastoni’s arrival.

As things stand, Gerard Martin, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo, and Andreas Christensen are all members of the Blaugrana squad who play mostly as center-backs.

The Dane’s future is highly uncertain, as his contract is expiring at the end of this season, and he has a renewal offer on the table with significantly reduced wages.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Cortes, who has been training under Flick recently, would also see his way blocked, and might have to be sent on loan, while the on-loan youngster Pacifico, might be purchased permanently.

Thus, the arrival of Alessandro Bastoni at FC Barcelona would not really be good news for everyone in the Blaugrana ranks.

  1. If we can get Bastoni and bring back Chelsea’s left back, we are ready to compete at the highest level….. We also need 2 good attackers to replace Feran and Lewi

  2. It might not be good news for all the defenders, but if they were performing at the level that’s required or expected, then they wouldn’t have to. Barca do need a left-footed center-back, and yes, there is Martin, but he was converted from his original position at left-back to play this position, he is good, but not top quality, yet.
