FC Barcelona boast a well-rounded squad, with most players still young and either entering their prime or yet to reach it.

It bodes well for Hansi Flick to have a youthful squad with two to three players available for each position. However, Barcelona’s financial situation may still necessitate some player sales.

One player who has not had the best of times at Barcelona in recent seasons is Ronald Araujo. Once tipped to become the leader of the defence, the Uruguayan has seen the likes of Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi leapfrog him to the starting berth.

Now, as per Fichajes, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur is exploring a move to sign the talented 26-year-old from Barcelona and has already taken initial steps in that direction. The London-based club recognizes Araujo’s strong international profile and top-level experience.

The report mentions that Barcelona will not allow the Uruguayan to leave cheaply this summer, but Tottenham are aware that the Spanish club is open to negotiations.

As for Araujo, the feeling from the player’s camp is that he would be open to a change of surroundings as he strives to resurrect his faltering career.

Make-or-Break Season Ahead for Araujo at Barcelona

If Araujo does indeed move to the N17, he might find himself in a similar situation to what he is currently facing in Barcelona. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have made the starting position their own for Spurs, and it would be difficult to displace them.

Ultimately, it would be a surprise if Araujo leaves Barcelona this summer. Hansi Flick continues to count on him, and he seems to be third in the pecking order. With age on his side, he can still resurrect his career in Blaugrana, and the 2025/26 season could be make or break.
