FC Barcelona were unable to finish the 2025-26 season on a high, as they suffered a defeat at the hands of Valencia in their final match of the season. Still, this would remain a memorable campaign for the Blaugranes overall, as they successfully defended their league title.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the midfielder Frenkie de Jong was one of the players who appeared in front of the media after last night’s game, and he took this opportunity to comment on the past season.

The Dutchman was already driven to have an even better next season:

“We want more next year… We have to keep working and keep improving.”

The midfielder highlighted one particular aspect that encouraged him for the next campaign:

“We have a very good squad. Injuries affect us, but we have very good players, and that’s why we can bounce back.”

Frenkie also rued his own injury problems:

“I regret not being able to play in some matches this season.”

The Dutch star wanted his team to continue trying to win the UCL:

“It’s bad luck, and when you get eliminated, it hurts even more. We have to keep going.”

For now, he was looking forward to the World Cup with The Netherlands, and wanted to make his way to the final, irrespective of the opponent:

“I’m feeling good, I’m excited to play in the World Cup, and we’ll see what happens. I’d sign up for a final, and I don’t care who it’s against.”

It remains to be seen what role Frenkie de Jong will have in Hansi Flick’s plans for the next season, especially as he lost his starting spot in the second half of this season with Barcelona.
