FC Barcelona may have had a mixed start to the 2025/26 season, but two players who have been consistently impressive are Pedri and Frenkie de Jong. They are also the two outfield players who have been the least rotated by Hansi Flick.

The duo has formed an excellent partnership at the base of midfield. Pedri has always been adored by the Blaugrana faithful, but the same cannot always be said about Frenkie. However, with his recent performances, he has managed to win over the fanbase.

The only concern surrounding the Dutchman was his contractual situation, with his deal expiring at the end of the season. The player, however, has repeatedly reiterated that he intends to continue wearing the Blaugrana shirt for the near future.

Although the negotiations have dragged on due to a change in Frenkie’s agents, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Barcelona and the club’s vice-captain have reached a complete verbal agreement on the details of a new contract until 2029.

This would see Frenkie extend his stay at the club by three years, as per the contract, and this bodes very well for Hansi Flick. If Pedri is the first name the German coach writes on his team sheet, the Dutchman isn’t far behind as the second.

Putting pen to paper on a new deal will also help fans shed all their inhibitions and place complete trust in Frenkie. Incidents in the past, like the one with Ousmane Dembele, mean fans won’t rest easy until the ink dries.

Everything points to Frenkie extending his contract and continuing to mesmerize everyone with his quality in midfield. Let’s hope the Dutchman, along with Pedri, can emerge as the fulcrum around which the team develops and thrives.
