FC Barcelona are looking to strengthen several areas of their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. In this regard, they are already quite close to completing the signing of the goalkeeper Joan Garcia, and reportedly have already paid his release clause.

Meanwhile, the Catalans are also looking to reinforce their attack, and for this purpose, they have linked with several notable names. The Blaugrana club’s favorite candidate is reported to be the Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, but other players are also being linked with them.

Barcelona will still face competition for Nico Williams

One such player is the Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, whose agent met with Deco last night, and has been an object of Barcelona’s desire for quite some time now.

This meeting between his agent and Deco is being seen as the first step in his signing by the Catalans. However, SPORT notes that Barcelona will still face significant competition in this operation as several other big teams are also interested in the Spanish star.

One such team is the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who have also met with Nico’s agent to assess his plans. They are looking to support their star forward Harry Kane with other high-profile names in the attack, and their economic muscle can allow them to put in a bigger offer than Barcelona for the player.

Similarly, two clubs from the Premier League, Arsenal and Chelsea, are also interested in him, and they both also have bigger spending power than the Blaugranes.

Real Madrid out of the race

Meanwhile, Real Madrid, who were linked with Nico in recent weeks, can be considered to be out of the race after they announced the signing of Franco Mastantuono.

Thus, Nico’s options in Spain remain only Barcelona or continuing at Athletic Club. He wants to continue playing in Spain, and prefers the Blaugrana side, where he has several friends playing in the first team.

Thus, while they might not be able to present as big an economic offer as these other clubs, Barcelona still enjoy several advantages in the race for Nico Williams.
