RCD Mallorca have turned their attention to another gem from the talent pool of FC Barcelona, just weeks after finalizing a deal for Pablo Torre. According to Jijantes (via Mundo Deportivo), Los Piratas are now showing interest in 18-year-old winger Jan Virgili.
Virgili joined Barça U-19 from Gimnàstic de Tarragona last summer and played a key role in Juliano Belletti’s Juvenil A side, helping them achieve a historic treble by winning the league, the Copa del Rey Juvenil, and the UEFA Youth League. The young winger featured in 33 matches at the youth level, recording seven goals and three assists.
His impressive form earned him a late-season call-up to Barça Atlètic by Sergi Milà, where he quickly became a regular starter. In just 17 appearances with the reserve team, Virgili scored four goals and established himself as the first-choice option on the right flank.
Recognizing his rapid progress, Hansi Flick included Virgili in a group of ten youngsters invited to begin preseason training. However, the German coach later decided to move forward with other quarry talents such as Jofre Torrents, Toni Fernández, Guille Fernández, Roony Bardghji, and Dro, resulting in Virgili’s return to Barça Atlètic.
Although he did not make the final preseason squad, Virgili’s reputation remains strong. His standout performances for Spain at the Under-19 European Championship have further increased interest from other clubs. In addition to Mallorca, four teams from La Liga Hypermotion are also closely monitoring his situation.
Mallorca, now led by Jagoba Arrasate, are eager to strengthen their squad. Having already signed Pablo Torre from Barcelona earlier this summer for €5 million plus a percentage of any future capital gain, they are reportedly aiming to secure another deal with the Catalan club, this time for Virgili.
However, it remains to be seen whether Virgili will choose to stay at FC Barcelona and fight for another opportunity under Hansi Flick, hoping to continue his development with Barça Atlètic, or opt for a move elsewhere in search of more immediate first-team opportunities.
